James House is delighted to report the following recent success stories:

Last year, our family preservation programme managed to successfully reunite seven children with their parents or with extended family members (after offering the children care and support and helping address the problems in the home).

Recently, through the Youth Development Programme:

9 young people received certification from the Salesians Institute in professions ranging from office administration & computer literacy to bricklaying and tiling.
-
2 young people enrolled for a leadership course at Chrysalis Academy.
-
3 young people attended training in Hospitality Management at the Tourism Business Institute of SA, and received job placements upon successful completion of the training.

1 young person was employed at a local restaurant.
- The Sibanye Youth Club has been hugely successful, and in addition to the cultural, sporting and community service activities offered to members, can report the following success stories:

15 young people matriculated.

4 young people found employment.

2 young people participated in learnerships.
-
25 young people were still at school.

1 young person participated in FET Training.

4 young people volunteered at the Isibindi Safe Park.

As part of the after-care component of the programme, the Life Centre recently paid monthly school transport costs for 16 children, and supplied school uniforms and stationery for 6 others.

In 2010, there were as many as 1138 visits by children to the Safe Park.

In the five-year period that Isibindi has been in existence, the programme has served well over 800 children, and helps, on average, more than 150 families every year.

The Gogo and Liyema Ikhaya projects cater for households headed by grandmothers and children respectively. In the last year, these projects helped deliver life skills training to over 30 grannies and 25 young people.
