James House Today

Today, James House is not only a residential childcare facility, but is also deeply involved in family preservation and reunification, in wide-ranging community-based services for orphans and vulnerable children, and in youth development work. However, while the services we provide are many and diverse, the thread that runs through them, tying everything together, is the need of “this child, in this moment”.

In recent years, we at James House have set our sights further afield. While the wellbeing of the child remains our key focus, we are also reaching out to the community, providing services such as life skills and job training, family support programmes, learning and recreational facilities, and others.

Through a number of innovative programmes, we are now making a real, sustainable difference to the quality of life and well-being of the community at large.

Our efforts are formalised and consolidated under three nationally accredited “Family Preservation” programmes. These are:

  •  Isibindi (Community-based Care);

  • Life Centre (Youth Development);

  • Residential Care (which includes family reunification).

Overall, these programmes directly impact and uplift the lives of over 700 children, young people and their families.

We are proud to have served the community of Hout Bay for the past 25 years, and of our reputation for being responsive, adaptable and innovative within the constantly evolving and challenging field of child and youth care.
